Key Responsibilities

  • Review menus, production sheets, and communication boards to determine food preparation needs.
  • Prepare meals according to standardized recipes while maintaining quality, consistency, proper texture, portion sizes, and safe serving temperatures.
  • Taste and evaluate food during preparation to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Prepare meals that meet prescribed therapeutic diets and make approved substitutions when necessary.
  • Cook meals that are served on schedule.
  • Portion food according to established menu guidelines.
  • Aid in the supervision of Nutrition Services operations in the absence of the Director of Nutrition Services and team leaders.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchens, refrigerators, freezers, storage areas, and food preparation spaces.
  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation tasks in accordance with health and regulatory standards.
  • Receive and check food and supply deliveries as needed.
  • Assist in training team members on the proper use and care of kitchen equipment.
  • Participate in departmental audits and quality improvement activities.
  • Report equipment issues and supply needs promptly.
  • Follow HIPAA confidentiality requirements, organizational policies, infection prevention practices, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and required in-service education.

  • Ability to prepare high-quality meals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to food quality, customer service, and food safety.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine lifting associated with food preparation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous cooking experience in healthcare, senior living, hospitality, or commercial food service.
  • Experience preparing therapeutic or modified diets.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
  • Experience with large-batch meal preparation is preferred.
