About the Role
Prepare all necessary menu items in accordance with established standards, serve them attractively and at the proper temperature. Implement proper cleaning and food handling to ensure optimal infection control.
Qualifications
- Education: Tenth grade or above desirable
- Proficiency in English is required
- ServSafe Certification
- Six months experience in large quantity food preparation
- Experience with therapeutic diet preparation preferred
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates professional conduct and ethics according to Kindred Healthcare policy and procedure
- Performs job duties safely as specified in the physical, sensory, and mental requirements
- Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team
- Reads menus, recipes, and reviews with Dietary Services Manager all necessary steps in meal preparation
- Prepares all necessary menu items in accordance with established standards
- Determines quantity of all food needed in meal preparation
- Follows recipes and uses proper food preparation and handling techniques
- Prepares substitute items to meet resident’s individual needs
- Serves meals using portions listed on the menu
- Covers, dates, and labels all leftovers and stores properly
- Follows established security routine
- Uses proper infection control techniques and protective equipment as needed
- Uses proper safety techniques
- Supervises dietary personnel in absence of Dietary Services Manager
- Receives and checks all deliveries against invoices of Dietary Services Manager
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills
- Knowledge of safe food preparation and handling techniques
- Knowledge of nutritional standards and applications
- Skilled in bulk food preparation
- Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the job
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization
- Ability to be accurate, concise, and detail-oriented
- Ability to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Ability to perform basic math skills
- Understands principles of growth and development for the entire life span with the ability to provide care appropriate for the adolescent, adult, and geriatric residents as appropriate to the resident population
- Ability to communicate effectively in English through verbal and written means
