Job Summary

The Cook will be responsible for safely and efficiently planning and preparing healthy meals for the agency's residents. This role assists with daily activities such as providing meal service to residents and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas. The successful Cook will ensure full compliance with nutritional standards, internal procedures and government regulations while preparing and serving foods and beverages to all residents.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the highest standards of food safety and sanitation are always met; adhere to proper processes and procedures.
  • Utilize agency resources to prepare meals that support a healthy lifestyle, while considering cost effectiveness and budget; maintain food, sanitation and safety standards in all activities.
  • Receive deliveries and orders, reconcile invoices; put product away in timely fashion, first in/first out (ensure inventory is rotated).
  • Ensure economical use of resources/food, including proper storage, labeling, and use of leftovers.
  • Maintain record of refrigeration temperatures/sanitation/dish washer/chemical levers, take correct action as needed – twice daily as required.
  • Operate and clean a variety of specialized food service equipment, i.e. coffee maker, automatic dishwasher, commercial ovens and mixer, meat slicer, etc.
  • Maintain sanitary environment in kitchen and stock room at all times. Ensure inspection ready at all times.
  • Report any safety, sanitary or other concerns to supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Provide direction as necessary to volunteers – ensure activities adhere to set processes and procedures, including food safety, sanitation and cleanliness.
  • Provide courteous service to all customers and residents; demonstrate empathy and a desire to help others.
  • Adequately dress for the job, including proper footwear, hair nets, and other requirements.
  • Absorb lead role in kitchen when Chef is not at work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position

Full time - Monday - Friday 9:30am-6:00pm

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements (Education/Experience/Certificates/Licenses): 2 years’ experience in volume service kitchen (knife skills, meal preparation, cooking)
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures.
  • Ability to produce in excess of 600 meals daily.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in excellent customer service.
  • Basic understanding of Word and Excel.
  • Must be willing to work occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift 40lbs.
