U.S. Citizenship is required. A background security investigation and favorable adjudication are required for all new hires. You will serve a 2-year trial or 1-year probationary period. You must maintain a state-valid Food Handler’s Certificate (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare and cook a variety of items for regular and therapeutic diets (diabetic, low sodium, low protein, gluten free, etc.), including entrees and dessert items.
  • Prepare different types of food using methods such as braise, broil, simmer, bake, fry, steam, stew, and grill.
  • Cook foods to proper temperatures and maintain proper food temperatures during holding, re-heating, and serving to assure quality control and food safety.
  • Wash, peel, and cut fruits and vegetables; set up and replenish a salad bar.
  • Make a variety of desserts such as cobblers, brownies, cookies, and pastries.
  • Weigh, measure, and assemble ingredients for regular and modified menu items.
  • Cover, label, and date food items according to established policies and procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, including deep cleaning tasks; sweep and mop floors; clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, work surfaces, tables, and utensils; and clean kettles, ranges, ovens, and other equipment.
  • Operate a variety of kitchen equipment and follow appropriate safety procedures.
  • Track students' meal plan usage by counting the number of purchased dinners.
  • This position is subject to shift rotation as necessary to meet cafeteria coverage requirements.
  • Restricted to lifting items that weigh less than 8 pounds.

Requirements

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN-OUT).
  • Work practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order).
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Dexterity and safety.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints).
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials.
