About the role
Join our team at Accel at Willow Bend in Plano, TX as a Cook, where you will prepare quality food for our residents in a rehabilitative care facility. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team recognized for its achievements and contributions, helping to provide superior clinical care, rehabilitation, wellness, and supportive services.
Responsibilities
- Safe Food Handling
- Understand and follow guidelines for food handling and storage, including all raw and prepared foods.
- Complete the daily Quick Check departmental review in the absence of the Nutrition Services Manager or as requested.
- Test and record temperatures of hot and cold foods; record temperature of cold food storage areas. Report and correct negative results to supervisor.
- Properly discard expired or contaminated food items.
- Perform and enforce hand washing, wearing of gloves, and use of hair restraints.
- Comply with established infection control and universal precaution policies and procedures; use required protective wear.
- Food Preparation
- Follow and enforce methods to control cross-contamination.
- Prepare foods using standardized recipes and in the required amount specified by production worksheets, adhering to special diet requirements.
- Use available tools (spreadsheet, prep-at-a-glance, production guides) to ensure timely and correct meal production and portion control.
- Properly pull, thaw, and prep foods in advance of production needs.
- Ensure foods are served within meal serving hours, preserving quality, temperature, and appearance.
- General Food Service Duties
- Serve meals according to facility methods, using correct portion control and plating/presentation guidelines.
- Provide texture-appropriate garnishes for all entrees.
- Perform daily and scheduled cleaning of the kitchen and equipment following established sanitation procedures.
- Ensure serving line and work area are cleaned and sanitized after each use.
- Clean and arrange food storage areas.
- Properly store, chill, and reheat leftovers for later use.
- Responsible for proper use of 3-compartment sink and clean-up of cooking pots and pans.
- Assist other department staff to ensure timely production, service, and clean-up.
- Responsible for closing the kitchen (PM shift) in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements.
- In the absence of the Nutrition Services Manager, oversee overall departmental function and compliance, maintaining communication with the Administrator and/or Director of Nurses.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One year of experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, hospital, or similar institution preferred.
- Food handlers’ card required, or Food Safety Certification where required by local ordinance.
- Fundamental understanding of sanitation, cleanliness, and personal hygiene.
- Ability to tactfully communicate with co-workers, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
- Regular, predictable, and dependable attendance.
