Cook - Assisted Living - Part Time Evening

Facility: GSS MN Howard Lake – The Lodge of Howard Lake, an 18-apartment assisted-living community in Howard Lake, MN. Residents receive 24-hour staffing support while maintaining independence.

About the role

Prepares, assembles, and cooks baked goods, meals, and portions for residents, staff, and visitors according to menu and dietary guidelines. Ensures food meets quality standards for appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation. Performs cleaning duties to maintain sanitary cooking and serving areas, and handles labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve high-quality, safe food for residents, co-workers, and guests.
• Follow standardized recipes and Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food preparation, storage, and usage.
• Document HACCP steps, temperatures, and outcomes to ensure food safety.
• Operate kitchen equipment including mixers, slicers, kettles, ovens, grills, fryers, food processors, refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in cooking and serving areas.
• Work independently in a dynamic culinary environment with strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Understand and apply food safety, sanitation processes, and basic math for measurements.
• Stand and walk for the majority of the shift, covering significant distances throughout the facility.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
• Basic math skills for measuring and recipe comprehension.
• Minimum of six months of applicable experience preferred; on-the-job training provided.
• ServSafe certification may be required within a designated timeframe, depending on location.
• Fulfill annual continuing education requirements, including departmental meetings, safety education, and mandatory in-services.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required depending on location.
• Valid driver’s license may be required depending on location.

Pay

• Base pay: $18.50 – $23.50 per hour, based on experience.
• Weekend differential: Additional $1.25 per hour.

Schedule

• Part-time, evening shift.
• Weekly hours: 15.
• Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
