Cook (As Needed less than 20 hours)

About the role

The Salvation Army Midland Division Corps Camp Mihaska is seeking a cook to join their team. This individual will be responsible for preparing and serving meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and complying with state health regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food.
• Comply with state health regulations in the operation of the kitchen, including proper sanitation practices.
• Sanitize all cooking utensils.
• Ensure dining room is set up and tables and floors are clean before and after meals.
• Keep kitchen refrigerators, walk-in refrigerator, freezer, and all drawers and cabinets clean and organized at all times.
• Keep and maintain a daily temperature log of food being served, as well as all refrigerators and freezers.
• Operate necessary kitchen equipment for food preparation and clean-up.
• Lift and carry cooking materials and supplies.
• Attend necessary state certification classes and staff meetings.
• Maintain client confidentiality and treat clients and staff with respect.
• Report any damage or theft of kitchen items to supervisor.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers and supervisors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and one year cooking experience.
• Able to comply with recipes, safety handling instructions and job description.
• Must have or obtain within the orientation period a valid food handling certificate.
• Able to prepare meals in large quantities.
• Valid driver’s license and pass TSA MVR check is a plus.

Qualifications

This position requires the ability to perform the above essential duties. The employee must be capable of frequently lifting 25 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Most work will be indoors in a temperature control environment; however, in the kitchen it will get above 80 degrees at times and cold in the walk-in refrigerator/freezer if so equipped.
