About the Role

We are seeking a passionate culinary professional to join our team at the Virginia Guesthouse, opening in April 2026. As part of our Culinary team, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills, work with a world-class culinary team, and contribute to creating exceptional dining experiences for our guests.

Responsibilities

• Develop knowledge and skills in various cooking procedures and methods (grill, sauté, and fry)
• Use knives and various kitchen equipment proficiently
• Follow and recreate recipes consistently
• Minimize food waste through cross-utilization
• Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
• Prepare ingredients (chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc.)
• Maintain a sanitized and orderly kitchen environment
• Ensure proper storage of all food and other items
• Uphold the quality of ingredients
• Assist Chefs in production and fabrication of food products for various dining outlets
• Maintain a passive leadership role in ensuring adequate production levels from the kitchen staff

Requirements

• 1-3 years of previous experience working in a professional kitchen environment
• Morning availability required
• Active Food Handler’s certification or the ability to obtain one
• Willingness to work a variety of day/night and weekend shifts
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift at least 50 pounds
• At least 21 years of age

Pay

$21.00 per hour

Opening in April 2026, the Virginia Guesthouse is a 214-room hotel featuring 25,000 square feet of conference and event space, located on the beautiful Grounds of the University of Virginia. We’re building a dynamic and welcoming team to serve our guests, conference attendees, faculty, and students.
