About Us
The Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) is the juvenile corrections system for the state of Ohio. DYS is statutorily mandated to confine felony offenders, ages 10-21, who have been adjudicated and committed by one of Ohio's 88 county juvenile courts. During their stay with DYS, youth are engaged in programming designed to address their criminological and behavioral needs. Our mission is to improve Ohio's future by habilitating youth and empowering families and communities.

Responsibilities
- Provide work direction and training to youth workers and youth apprentices in food preparation, sanitation, and storage of food.
- Monitor service lines, loading of carts, storage of foods, and general cleaning.
- Work all stations on a rotating basis, including cooking, dish washing, wiping down tables, working on the serving line, and sweeping and mopping floors.
- Operate commercial/standard kitchen equipment to cook food.
- Prepare salads, desserts, dressings, breads, hot and cold beverages, special menu foods, sliced meats and cheeses, sandwiches, fruit plates, and relish trays; clean and cut vegetables and meats before cooking and mixing.
- Clean work area, equipment, and utensils; ensure safety and sanitation of assigned area.
- Operate cash register and prepare daily paperwork, including HAACP forms.
- Supervise youth workers assigned to the work area; follow youth general safety and security procedures.
- Set up food-line and portions of food in compliance with established dietary requirements.
- Set up food carts according to daily recipes to be followed in the food preparation area.
Requirements
- Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Six months of training or six months of experience in food preparation, sanitation, and storage, and use of food service equipment in an institutional, school, or restaurant setting.
- Applicants must list examples of experience in food service.

$21.48 per hour
