Pay

$20-$21 per hour

About the role

The Cook 1 is a member of the Food & Beverage Team responsible for food preparation, cooking, and serving. This position reports to the Kitchen Manager or Executive Chef.

Responsibilities

• Work and master one kitchen station; accept responsibility for personal decisions and actions
• Ensure superior standards of service to meet guest and employee requirements
• Proactively exceed guest satisfaction and resolve challenges from guests or employees
• Follow cleaning schedule and checklist daily to maintain a clean and sanitary environment
• Prepare food using proper techniques: read cooking instructions, wash/peel/cut/shred vegetables and fruits, measure/mix ingredients per recipes
• Cook foods by baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming; adjust thermostat controls for ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles
• Test foods being cooked by tasting, smelling, and visual appearance
• Carve meats, portion food, add gravies/sauces, and garnish servings to fill orders
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
• Minimum of one year cooking experience in a commercial kitchen
• Current Food Handlers card
• Ability to read and interpret documents (safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, procedure manuals)
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or team members
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make independent decisions based on sound judgment
• Self-motivated, proactive, and team-oriented with a strong customer focus
• Ability to manage multiple details in a fast-paced environment with continuous improvement expectations
• Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends

Work Environment

This position typically operates in an indoor kitchen environment but may also work at outdoor kitchen stations for events. The kitchen contains equipment such as ovens, stoves, dishwashers, slicers, coffee machines, steamers, mixers, and chef’s knives. Exposure to heat, steam, fire, and noise is frequent, with varying noise levels that can be loud. Outdoor environments may require walking on varied terrains while carrying items and navigating event obstacles (e.g., groups of people, table setups, decorations, plants, and natural landscapes).

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to speak, hear, taste, and smell; sit, stand, and walk for the duration of a work shift
• Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching with hands and arms
• Frequent hand washing required
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
