About the Role
Assist the Supervisor and crews in the daily process to produce quality converted products in a safe, productive manner with minimum waste. Assist in the training of all new employees and cross-train employees in key positions.
Responsibilities
- Train and cross-train employees on machinery and processes.
- Ensure that necessary tools and materials are available for crews to accomplish tasks.
- Oversee crews to ensure reliability, dependability, and punctuality.
- Foster cooperation among crew members and maintain team morale.
- Maintain confidentiality and address crew questions, concerns, and problems.
- Train crew members on the importance of running efficiently and communicate performance feedback.
- Coordinate with supervisors and Maintenance Superintendent on repairs or preventive maintenance.
- Keep upper management informed of issues that may affect department performance.
- Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
- Communicate with supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
- Improve career skills through seminars, technical courses, and related college courses.
- Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including safety programs and good housekeeping.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly assist in supervising all employees assigned to the department.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, and resolve conflicts.
- Build teams, coach, and lead employees to improve performance.
- Address complaints, resolve problems, and document employee-related matters.
- Set an example of superior behavior, attitude, and performance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of prior leadership experience.
- Prior work experience in the corrugated industry (preferred).
Skills
Language Skills
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Mathematical Skills
- Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
- Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.
- Able to apply concepts of high school math.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities to support efficient operation and training.
- Understanding of cost issues to make daily decisions that reduce overall costs and identify areas for improvement.
- Knowledge of quality standards and regulatory requirements, including wage and hour laws, environmental and waste minimization, OSHA, DEQ, and EEO.

- Teaching skills to train personnel in technical and administrative aspects of the position.

Certifications
- May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
