This role offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of Deloitte's innovation and product strategy while working closely with industry priorities in personal and commercial lines insurance.

Work You'll Do

As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you will embed directly with strategic clients in the financial services sector to understand their technical challenges and design world-class solutions using our platform. This high-impact role blends engineering excellence with customer partnership, influencing product direction while working in fast-moving, high-stakes environments.

Responsibilities

  • Client Engagement & Technical Advisory
    • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for strategic client accounts, building relationships with architects, engineers, and technical leaders.
    • Lead discovery sessions to understand client architectures, pain points, and business objectives.
    • Translate complex technical concepts into clear narratives for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Solution Design & Architecture
    • Collaborate with client architects and internal teams to design scalable, production-ready solutions.
    • Provide guidance on microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and cloud-native deployment patterns.
    • Review and advise on client system designs, identifying risks and recommending best practices.
  • Proof of Concepts & Demos
    • Rapidly prototype and build POCs to demonstrate platform value in real-world client use cases.
    • Own and deliver polished, technically rigorous demos tailored to client-specific technology stacks and business domains.
    • Maintain a library of reusable demo assets and reference implementations.
  • Workshops & Enablement
    • Design and facilitate technical workshops, hackathons, and onboarding bootcamps for client engineering teams.
    • Produce high-quality technical documentation, runbooks, and integration guides.
    • Accelerate client time-to-value by enabling their teams to build confidently and independently.
  • Feedback & Internal Collaboration
    • Act as the voice of the customer, surfacing product gaps, integration friction, and feature requests to internal teams.
    • Partner with Sales, Solutions Architecture, and Product to shape the technical go-to-market strategy.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Core Technical Skills
    • Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot, including building production-grade microservices.
    • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture (Kafka, event sourcing, CQRS, async messaging patterns).
    • Hands-on experience with microservices design principles: service decomposition, API design, resiliency patterns, observability.
    • Proficiency across multi-cloud environments, primarily AWS; working knowledge of Azure and GCP.
    • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Emerging Technology
    • Exposure to Agentic AI frameworks and tooling (LangGraph, LangChain, or similar).
    • Practical understanding of LLM integration patterns, prompt engineering, and AI-powered application design.
    • Interest in staying current with AI/ML advancements and translating them into client-relevant use cases.
  • Soft Skills & Presence
    • Exceptional communicator, able to lead technical conversations with senior engineers and C-suite stakeholders.
    • Strong facilitation skills for workshops, design reviews, and working sessions.
    • Self-directed, highly organized, and comfortable managing multiple client engagements.
    • Natural curiosity and a bias for building—preferring demos over slides.
  • Additional Key Experience
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
    • Contributions to open-source projects or public technical content (talks, blogs, repos).
    • Prior experience in a startup or high-growth SaaS environment.
    • Relevant cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, GCP Professional, etc.).

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time in client-facing, solutions engineering, or field engineering roles; financial services background (banking, capital markets, payments, insurance, or fintech) strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent field; Advanced Degree is a plus—equivalent work experience may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Ability to travel 20-30%, based on client and project needs.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $134,500–$265,100. The wage range considers factors such as skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and business needs.
