About the role
You will join Deloitte’s Converge for FSI business, a team blending start-up agility with enterprise scale. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll embed with our most strategic financial-services clients—especially in insurance—to co-design and implement differentiated digital product propositions on the Insurance Growth Suite, a managed composable platform. This is a high-impact role with direct influence on both product direction and client outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Client Engagement & Technical Advisory
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for strategic accounts, building deep relationships with architects and engineering leaders.
- Lead discovery sessions to map client architectures, pain points, and business objectives.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear narratives for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Solution Design & Architecture
- Collaborate with client architects and internal teams to design scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Provide authoritative guidance on microservices, event-driven systems, and cloud-native patterns.
- Review client designs, identify risks, and recommend best practices.
- Proof of Concepts & Demos
- Rapidly prototype and build POCs that demonstrate platform value in real-world contexts.
- Own and deliver polished, technically rigorous demos tailored to each client’s stack and domain.
- Maintain reusable demo assets and reference implementations.
- Workshops & Enablement
- Design and facilitate deep-dive technical workshops, hackathons, and onboarding bootcamps.
- Produce runbooks, integration guides, and other enablement materials to accelerate client time-to-value.
- Feedback & Internal Collaboration
- Surface product gaps, integration friction, and feature requests to internal product and engineering teams.
- Partner with Sales, Solutions Architecture, and Product to shape go-to-market strategy.
Core Technical Skills
- Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot; production-grade microservices development.
- Strong understanding of event-driven architecture: Kafka, event sourcing, CQRS, async messaging.
- Hands-on microservices design: service decomposition, API design, resiliency, observability.
- Multi-cloud proficiency with AWS as primary; working knowledge of Azure and GCP.
- Containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes.
- Emerging technology exposure: Agentic AI frameworks (LangGraph, LangChain), LLM integration patterns, prompt engineering.
Soft Skills & Presence
- Exceptional communicator comfortable with senior engineers and C-suite alike.
- Strong facilitation skills for workshops, design reviews, and working sessions.
- Self-directed, highly organized, able to juggle multiple client engagements.
- Natural curiosity and bias for building—preferring to spin up a demo over a slide deck.
Additional Key Experience
- CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
- Contributions to open-source projects or public technical content (talks, blogs, repos).
- Prior experience in a startup or high-growth SaaS environment.
- Relevant cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, GCP Professional, etc.).
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with significant client-facing or solutions engineering time; financial-services background strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent field; advanced degree or equivalent work experience may substitute.
- Ability to travel 20–30% on average.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
Pay
The estimated annual base pay range is $134,500–$265,100. Eligibility for a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to program rules and individual/organizational performance.
