Convenience Store Associate

About the role

This role is responsible for working independently to display and stock products, contributing to the financial success of the store. You will ensure compliance with company guidelines for guest experience, safety, and food safety.

Responsibilities

• Process financial transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, bottle refunds, voids, and coupons accurately and in accordance with company policy.
• Assist in receiving, unloading, and stocking products in required areas of the store.
• Perform front-end duties such as running the cash register, suggestive selling (e.g., lottery), enrolling guests in the loyalty program, and maintaining a clean and neat service area.
• Ensure proper use of product identification and corresponding PLUs; report errors in pricing or signage.
• Maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations (e.g., One More Item and assisting in execution of the department flight plan).
• Communicate company programs (e.g., loyalty program, scans, in-store specials, and coupons) to customers and model high standards of service.
• Comply with company policies regarding security, cash handling, product handling (e.g., damaged/spoiled products), and the sale of alcohol and tobacco products.
• Maintain a clean and well-stocked department and outside grounds; ensure compliance with company safety and sanitation procedures and standards.
• Assist with stocking items on the sales floor, cooler, and back room.
• Follow all PPE, safety, food safety, and cleaning expectations, as well as guest experience guidelines.
• May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• One year of prior retail or related experience preferred.
• Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers.
• Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

Physical Requirements

• May be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Must stand and walk for extended periods, and may bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
• Subject to a typical retail store environment (varied temperatures) and outside weather conditions.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
• Travel requirements vary by assignment.
