Position Summary
The Controls Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and improving manufacturing equipment and automation systems used in an ISO-certified pharmaceutical rubber manufacturing environment. This role supports production by ensuring equipment reliability, validated operating conditions, and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety standards, and internal quality systems.
Essential Functions
- Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electro-mechanical production equipment and facility systems.
- Executes maintenance activities in accordance with approved maintenance plans and validated equipment requirements.
- Troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems to minimize downtime.
- Supports calibration and verification of instrumentation including pressure, temperature, and process control devices.
- Maintains servo drives, VFDs, motors, sensors, and control hardware.
- Production Support & Troubleshooting
- Works collaboratively with engineering and operations teams to maintain equipment within validated process parameters.
- Diagnostics control system issues and coordinate with remote programming or automation support when required.
- Executes and documents work orders within SAP or other CMMS systems.
- Compliance, Documentation & Quality Systems
- Performs work in compliance with ISO standards, GMP requirements, and company SOPs.
- Maintains accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, and change control records.
- Ensures all work supports audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
- Continuous Improvement & Asset Management
- Monitors equipment performance and recommends improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Participates in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities.
- Assists with development and improvement of maintenance procedures and standards.
- Maintains preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
Qualifications & Technical Requirements
- Required:
- Associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial automation and control systems.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMI systems, industrial sensors, and automation hardware.
- Experience with low-voltage controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo drives, and temperature/pressure control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience.
- Proficiency using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, signal generators, and calibration equipment.
- Basic understanding of industrial networking concepts related to automation systems.
- Experience working with 110VAC – 480VAC power distribution systems.
- Preferred:
- Valid Electrical License (Journeyman Electrician, Industrial Electrician, or equivalent state-recognized certification) strongly preferred.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, rubber molding, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of ISO standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Familiarity with Siemens automation hardware and software.
- Experience with calibration tools and process instrumentation.
- Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) certification or equivalent.
