Controls Technician - Level III

About the role

Support automated equipment within a distribution center, ensuring optimal functionality and system performance.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain preventative maintenance plans for facility equipment and systems.
• Diagnose and repair issues related to materials handling and automated picking systems.
• Oversee system upgrades, modifications, and repairs of MHE controls.
• Assess system efficiency and recommend modifications.
• Maintain CMMS/EAM records of repairs and manage spare parts inventory.
• Design, assemble, program, and troubleshoot control systems for small to medium automated MHE systems, including PLCs, remote I/O, sensors, drives, and servos.
• Diagnose electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other facility systems, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Operate and troubleshoot chill water plant systems and network communication issues.
• Lead or assist team members as needed, demonstrating strong organizational and communication skills.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Facilities/Plant Management, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum four years of related experience, with a strong electrical background preferred.
• Proficiency in reading CAD layouts, electrical schematics, and control diagrams.
• Experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system design.
• Strong technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems, including motors, drives, sensors, and network communication protocols.
• Ability to diagnose at component level, operate diagnostic tools, and perform repairs efficiently.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with effective verbal and written communication.

The role requires flexibility to work extended hours as needed and may involve leadership responsibilities within the maintenance team.
