Controls Technician, Data Center Capacity Delivery

About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to innovation. As a Controls Technician for Service & Construction of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) within Amazon data centers, you will join a diverse team responsible for installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of field sensors, controllers, wiring, networking, and programming associated with industrial controls systems.

Responsibilities

• Work primarily in the field at data center sites, supporting multiple sites under Deployment and/or Service.
• Perform point-to-point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
• Conduct first-line diagnostics, troubleshooting, and maintenance of instrumentation associated with BMS and EPMS in data centers.
• Perform network configurations and communication testing between third-party devices and controllers or servers.
• Configure and calibrate sensors.
• Read and understand electrical schematics and control panel drawings.
• Apply basic understanding of closed-loop controls, field sensor scaling, and AND/OR functions performed by industrial controllers.
• Supervise low-voltage electrical contractors performing wiring and installation of field devices.
• Support commissioning and systems-level testing.
• Provide red-lined drawings and recommendations based on fieldwork; verify accuracy of as-built drawings.
• Assist in root cause analysis during testing and commissioning.
• Ensure all personnel on-site utilize proper safety methodology.
• Work on-call and a rotating schedule, responding to after-hours emergencies as required.
• Perform basic support tasks such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, and task prioritization.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field with 1+ years of relevant industrial Controls or HVAC controls experience, OR 3+ years of relevant industrial or HVAC controls experience in lieu of a degree.
• Basic understanding of industrial control systems, including knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, relays, and troubleshooting using standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment in data centers, hospitals, large commercial complexes, water, power, oil & gas, or similar industries.
• 1+ years of experience working with low-voltage controls, wiring, networking signals, electrical and mechanical systems, computers, and operating systems.
• Ability to work non-standard hours, differing work rotations/shifts, and overtime as required.
• Must meet ITAR compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

• International Society of Automation (ISA) Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher certification.
• Experience using common communication protocols (MQTT, BACnet, and/or MODBUS).
• 5+ years of experience in controls/automation, construction, or a related field in a technical environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
• Experience in data centers or mission-critical environments.
• Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout, as well as low-voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
• Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
• 4+ years of military service.

Physical Requirements

• Walk jobsites in uneven terrain and work at heights and from ladders.
• Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
• Work shifts longer than eight hours in duration.

Pay

USA, OH, Trenton - $30.91 - $54.18 USD hourly.
