Controls Technician
About the role
The Controls Technician supports safe, reliable, and efficient production by troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and improving industrial electrical, instrumentation, PLC, and automation systems. The role minimizes equipment downtime through preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, PLC, HMI, VFD, and automation systems on manufacturing equipment.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Support production during equipment failures and restore operations safely and efficiently.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot Siemens PLCs, remote I/O, communication networks, sensors, drives, motors, and safety circuits.
- Perform wiring, panel troubleshooting, device replacement, calibration, and field verification.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC logic.
- Maintain industrial instrumentation including temperature, pressure, level, encoder, and analog/digital devices.
- Collaborate with Operations, Mechanical Maintenance, Engineering, and other departments.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
- Follow all company safety policies, electrical safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience troubleshooting industrial electrical controls and automation systems.
- Experience with Siemens PLCs preferred.
- Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, STEP 7, WinCC, or similar software preferred.
- Experience with VFDs including Siemens SINAMICS, SEW, Lenze, or equivalent.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience installing, calibrating, and maintaining industrial instrumentation preferred.
Skills, Education, Licenses, Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Proven experience as a Controls Technician or similar industrial automation role.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, motor controls, sensors, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Siemens technical training or certification preferred.
