Controls Systems Engineer (HVAC/BAS)

About the role
We are seeking a Controls Systems Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of commercial HVAC Building Automation Systems (BAS). This role splits time between office-based engineering and field support, ensuring control systems are designed, configured, and implemented to meet project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design and engineer commercial HVAC control systems for BAS projects.
- Develop control-system architecture, sequences of operation, and system documentation.
- Support multiple commercial projects simultaneously from design through commissioning.
- Collaborate with project managers, field technicians, subcontractors, and customers to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Review mechanical and electrical drawings to develop control solutions.
- Provide technical support during system installation, startup, and commissioning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve control-system issues as needed.
- Travel to customer sites for project support, testing, and field coordination.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience with commercial HVAC controls or Building Automation Systems.
- Experience designing or engineering HVAC control systems for commercial buildings.
- Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC control strategies.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to customer sites using a personal vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related technical field.
- Experience supporting large commercial buildings, campuses, healthcare, education, or industrial facilities.
- Previous experience with BAS platforms and commercial HVAC control systems.
- Senior HVAC Controls Technicians with strong commercial controls experience who are interested in transitioning into engineering are encouraged to apply.
Work Environment
- Primarily office and customer-site based.
- Approximately 30–50% field work and 50–70% office work.
- Standard work schedule with occasional flexibility based on project needs.
- Local travel within the assigned service territory.
Schedule
- Shift hours: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM or 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.
- Primarily onsite (office + customer sites); limited remote work with manager approval.
- Personal vehicle required for local travel.
