Controls Systems Engineer

About the Role

We're seeking a Controls Systems Design Engineer to join our Factory Infrastructure Engineering team in Austin, TX, where you'll contribute to some of the most ambitious construction projects globally. You'll design control systems that form the backbone of facilities producing cutting-edge products like the Model Y, Cybertruck, Cybercab, and Optimus, as well as powering AI training centers and the world's largest chip manufacturing facility, TeraFab.

Responsibilities

• Architect control systems by sizing and selecting instruments and devices for HVAC, Chilled Water, Compressed Air, and other systems across vehicle, robotics, chip fabrication, and AI data center facilities.
• Manage end-to-end procurement, including datasheets, RFQ packages, and technical bid evaluations.
• Collaborate with vendors and contractors to ensure designs meet Tesla's engineering and documentation standards.
• Develop scalable, high-reliability control network architectures for 24/7 mission-critical operations.
• Work with HMI developers and programmers to optimize data exchange and create intuitive operator interfaces.
• Support construction teams and contractors in executing complex scopes of work.
• Generate detailed 2D and 3D construction drawings to define installation scope.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 3+ years of experience as a Controls, Instrumentation, or Applications Engineer with automation and/or electromechanical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, process, and plumbing drawings.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
• Hands-on experience configuring industrial control networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Serial Communication).
• Deep knowledge of industrial process and manufacturing equipment, including safety systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Beckhoff platforms).
