Controls Service Technician II
About the role
As a LONG Controls Service Technician II, you will support customers by troubleshooting and programming temperature control systems hardware and software based on customer complaints and concerns, or as identified by Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) software. You will perform emergency and preventative maintenance services on installed systems, leveraging your experience and skills to support our Impact-Driven Service offering. Additionally, you will provide guidance and consultation to customers regarding job tasks and recommended solutions, and mentor junior service technicians in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide inspections and assessments of control systems for physical damage, wear and tear, and signs of degradation
- Perform preventative maintenance such as cleaning, part replacements, software updates, or system optimizations
- Utilize industry experience to troubleshoot system issues and implement solutions
- Communicate with customers to answer inquiries, offer guidance, and resolve technical issues
- Educate system users on proper function and upkeep of products
- Supply information to customers about necessary replacements or vital repairs
- Keep records of all repairs and maintenance and report issues to the technical supervisor
- Independently diagnose a broad range of complex system issues and rectify them to client satisfaction
- Provide guidance and support to other controls service technicians on system maintenance and troubleshooting
- Implement standardized procedures to maximize control system efficiency
- Program databases for supported systems to meet specified sequences of operation and equipment manufacturer recommendations
- Perform calibration and check-out of control systems to ensure commissioning obligations are met
- Instruct customer personnel on operation and maintenance of temperature control systems and energy conservation routines
- Create pricing and quotes, including time and materials (T&M) estimates, for small projects or upgrades
- Utilize FDD platform to evaluate faults, diagnostics, and equipment performance, and confirm task resolution
- Update drawings and maintain records of equipment for as-built documentation
- Perform on-call work on a periodic basis
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 2+ years of field operations experience
- Associate’s degree in computer/electronic technical and 1 year’s temperature control system start-up, checkout, and service experience or 3-5 years temperature control system start-up, checkout, and service experience
- Ability to legally operate a company vehicle
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC, control systems, building automation, electrical systems, energy management, engineering, installation, and construction procedures
- Proficient programming and troubleshooting skills with KMC, Distech, Tridium/Honeywell, and other equivalent systems
- Strong analytical skills in solving software and integration challenges
- Ability to interpret mechanical plans and specifications
- Ability to independently handle multiple tasks simultaneously and accept responsibility and accountability
- Strong customer service and communication skills (written and verbal)
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of tech school
- Completion of the ASP Program
- Knowledge of LONG’s operations, procedures, and infrastructure

Physical Requirements
- Standing for extended periods, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and working in tight spaces
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor
- Ability to climb ladders and function at heights
- Inside and outside work environment with consistent in-state travel to jobsites
- Exposure to high precarious places, general construction worksite hazards, and possible driving in inclement weather conditions
