Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs controls system inspections, service, and troubleshooting
Captures all documents required to enable a functioning system, including product licensing, firmware, server, and controller level databases
Loads programs to enable a functioning system including product licenses, firmware updates, panel programming, graphics, setting IP addresses, setting jumpers on all hardware, and accurately applying labels to all materials
Troubleshoot network, software, and hosted-system malfunctions
Collaborate with other team members to develop and share technical solutions
Stay current with building technology product documentation and communicate updates to Field Technicians and Specialists
Coach Field Technicians on company systems and service offerings
Provide internal/external technical assistance and support on latest company products
Perform product demonstrations and communicate design strategies to customers
Perform migrations from P2 to BACnet
Startup and commission new HVAC DDC BACnet/IP control systems within estimate on new construction sites as well as existing retrofit sites, with the ability to perform with no guidance
Document progress and status of startup and commissioning in the point checkout sheet including notes and update project manager, customer, or account executive as needed
Update Submittals/red lines/as-builts at the completion of the project
Perform wiring checkout and assists in automation system startups
Exhibit knowledge of complex programming strategies and principles
Ensure customer expectations are met and resolve customer issues in a timely and professional manner
Provide input and feedback to Team Lead and/or Manager
Perform service agreement tasks as directed. Handles emergency service calls, on-site or online as directed
Responds to customer service calls, checks indicated points of trouble, and analyzes full requirements of system involved and checks and tests systems components
Recognize safety hazards and understand how to safely overcome them without causing harm to yourself or others
Understand the safety rules and regulations outlined in the BCS safety manual
On-call rotation
Complete written workorder notes and customer signature prior to leaving the customer site
Experience and Requirements
Education: Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills and Experience: Experience in installing or servicing electronic control systems; 6+ years preferred
Microsoft, Cisco, EIT, ASHRE, NICET, or CISSP certifications are a plus
Understanding of the design of large, standard jobs and the role that tools, products, and practices play in that design
Strong knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations
Experience installing and servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment
Proven electro-mechanical aptitude (based on previous experience and/or education)
Ability to read and understand design and construction documents
Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions
Must be able to differentiate types/colors of wire
Ability to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet
Ability to work in a team environment providing dedicated support to our customers
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
Minimum two years of experience in a mechanical capacity
Minimum two years of experience in systems including on-the-job experience as a systems/mechanical specialist
Strong knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical concepts, and operations
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and create and interpret graphs
Strong problem-solving ability
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver license
Technical school certificates, not required but preferred
Other Requirements
Requires frequent travel through Kansas and the Midwest
Requires occasional overnight stays
Training and Development
Completes training as required
Physical Requirements
Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing of stairs or ladders, bending, squatting or twisting
Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 100 pounds on a regular basis
Must be able to talk and listen to others
Frequent use of manual dexterity and visualization of a computer screen through the day
Requires ability to see up close and distant, distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Work Environment: This position regularly works primarily at job sites in all types of indoor and outdoor conditions including near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, extreme heat, cold and humidity. Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic fumes or chemicals and vibration. Risk of electrical shock is also part of the work environment. Regular noise levels range from moderate to very loud
Most of the job duties require the employee to be working on HVAC equipment in close quarters. Most testing is done with the equipment operating, creating noise and air movement. Many of our customer facilities have unfavorable environmental conditions.
