About the Role

The Integrated Weapons Experiments (J) Division's Engineering Operations and Physics (J-6) Group is seeking a Controls Engineer Post-Bachelor Student to support accelerator control system software and hardware for the Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test (DARHT) Facility. J-6 delivers state-of-the-art capabilities in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory's hydrodynamic test mission, including physics, diagnostics and data acquisition, controls, timing, pulsed power, mechanical systems, and operations essential to DARHT's accelerators. The group also conducts R&D to advance accelerator capabilities.

In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse team of scientists, engineers, technologists, and technicians on DARHT projects and programs while receiving training on specialized software and hardware used across both accelerators.

Responsibilities

• Support accelerator control system software and hardware for the DARHT Facility.
• Collaborate with a diverse team on DARHT projects and programs.
• Apply knowledge of control systems, data acquisition, and electrical engineering in a practical setting.
• Utilize high-level programming languages and control system software in a Microsoft Windows environment.
• Interact with personnel and customers at all levels, managing relationships across organizational boundaries.

Requirements

• Control Systems: Familiarity with common electronic/electrical test equipment, knowledge of data acquisition systems, and creative problem-solving skills.
• Programming: Experience with high-level languages and control system software in a Microsoft Windows environment.
• Engineering: Demonstrated knowledge in electrical engineering, electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and electrical circuits.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.
• Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, earned within the last 3 years, with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

Qualifications

• Experience with electronics and typical lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and DVMs.

Work Environment

Work location: Onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Security and Citizenship

This position requires a Q clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship. Selected applicants will undergo a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government. Eligibility for access to classified matter is determined by federal guidelines. Foreign nationals may be subject to similar requirements under DOE Order 142.3A.
