About the role

WSP USA hosts hundreds of internships across the United States to provide hands‑on, meaningful work experience that enhances education and professional aptitude. Interns work side‑by‑side with senior staff, gain exposure to real projects, and receive mentorship, networking opportunities, and lifelong career connections through the Developing Professionals Network. The kW Mission Critical Team is seeking a full‑time Controls Engineering Intern – Summer 2027 to work out of the Milwaukee, WI office (also considering Chicago, IL; New York, NY; and Atlanta, GA). This temporary position is open to individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program and will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, a 12‑week program beginning on May 17 2027 (individual start dates may be flexible). No relocation or housing assistance is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of Controls Engineering.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical or Processing Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Controls Engineering or a related field and a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Ability to take direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience.
  • Leadership involvement on campus.

Pay

Expected salary range (all locations): $23.90 – $32.22 per hour. WSP USA provides this range in good faith based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and geographic location. The final compensation may vary.
