Controls Engineering Intern/Co-Op
Dematic has an immediate need for an Electrical Controls Applications Engineering Intern/Co-Op in the Customer Service Modernizations & Upgrades group. Candidates should be based in Grand Rapids, MI and must be willing to travel 40-50% to customer locations in the USA.
About the role
Qualified candidates are proficient in performing basic tasks and able to take direction from senior engineers. This role assists in the design of routine systems that integrate hardware and software, supports project documentation, and aids in the start-up, commissioning, and testing of material handling systems.
Responsibilities
- Assists lead engineers with project documentation and tasks.
- Learns and shows proficiency with Dematic systems (e.g., CAD, SAP, Travel, and other applications).
- Provides assistance in recommending ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction.
- Aids in the start-up, commissioning, and testing of material handling systems.
- Assists with software PLC emulation and testing of material handling systems.
- Locates and follows Standard Work Practices and procedures.
- Performs basic tasks and functions for the professional field of work.
- Seeks advice and guidance on non-routine or problem areas from others.
- Identifies problems as they occur and takes appropriate steps to solve them in straightforward situations.
- Communicates effectively using both written and verbal skills.
- Demonstrates a general understanding of project execution and deliverables (Scope, Schedule, Budget).
Requirements
- Actively pursuing a BS/BA in Engineering (Undergraduate).
- Up to 0-4 years of experience in a related field.
- Demonstrates and applies comprehensive knowledge of field of specialization to complete complex assignments.
- Basic knowledge of professional principles and skills.
- Effectively uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular area of specialization.
- Experience with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Schneider) is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- Willingness to travel 40-50%.
Pay
The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $20.00 - $29.00 per hour at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
