Reliance One is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer for a contract opportunity supporting advanced automation projects in Warren, Michigan. This role is ideal for a technically skilled professional with experience in PLC programming, electrical systems, automation controls, and commissioning complex equipment.
About the role
As a Controls Engineer, you will support the commissioning, debugging, and implementation of Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) while collaborating with engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and improve manufacturing automation processes.
Contract opportunity, on-site in Warren, MI. Work may include travel to manufacturing sites in Toledo, OH.
Responsibilities
- Commission and debug Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
- Install and validate automation systems using established control checklists
- Troubleshoot and resolve controls-related issues in collaboration with engineering teams
- Review and analyze PLC logic to support system functionality
- Review and approve wiring diagrams and electrical documentation
- Utilize knowledge of PLCs, electrical systems, and Ethernet networks to support automation projects
- Support robot and vision system integration initiatives
- Track, manage, and close open project issues
- Provide project management support for ASRS equipment implementation
- Develop and standardize work processes for controls engineering activities
- Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure successful project execution
Requirements
- 5–7 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or related field
- Experience commissioning and debugging Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
- Strong understanding of PLC logic and troubleshooting
- Ability to read and interpret electrical prints and wiring diagrams
- Knowledge of Ethernet networks and industrial communication systems
- Experience tracking and resolving technical issues
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- Siemens PLC experience (preferred)
- Experience with robotics, vision systems, and global automation projects (preferred)
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills
Pay
$40–$50/hour
Schedule
Preferred: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
