Summary

The Controls Project Engineer will design complex building automation systems (BAS) using Microsoft Visio design software, coordinate with project managers and technicians, and provide technical assistance during installation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review contract documents to determine specific project requirements.
  • Create installation controls submittals including mechanical flow diagrams, controller wiring diagrams, valve and damper selection, and project record documents.
  • Coordinate with project managers on controls submittals before submission for review.
  • Select components that meet project specifications while staying within budget.
  • Finalize system sequence of operations for review by project manager and engineering team.
  • Provide technical assistance to project managers and field technicians during installation.
  • Program project system controllers for complex HVAC systems.
  • Ensure proper system operation by coordinating with field technicians during installation and closeout.
  • Support third-party commissioning of projects.
  • Provide exceptional customer service internally and externally.

  • Provide responsive and professional customer service.
  • Respond to customer inquiries promptly and professionally.

  • Follow company safety programs and report non-compliance.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Report incidents to the Controls Engineering Team Leader.
  • Complete required safety training courses.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (BSME or BSEE preferred) with 2+ years of technical experience in building automation systems.
  • Familiarity with commercial building construction and renovation.
  • Experience designing, installing, and programming building automation systems.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing codes.
  • Understanding of HVAC and electrical design theory.
  • Basic programming and low-voltage circuit design knowledge.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Visio Design software or equivalent CAD design software.
  • Basic programming experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Certifications in ASHRAE, LEED AP, AEE, BCA, NEEBM, AABC are recommended.
  • Licenses in EIT, CEM, CBCP, ACP, CCP, CEA, PEM, PE are a plus.
  • Ability to read and compose technical information and convey complex concepts clearly.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and convert units of measure.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions and adjust focus as needed.
  • Pass drug screening and prove US employment eligibility.
  • A valid drivers license and pass driving safety test.
