Controls Design Engineer II
Job Summary
About the role
The position involves applying technical knowledge and prior experience to the design, material selection, and development of sequence of operation for lower to mid-level control systems projects. Responsibilities also include producing closeout documents upon project completion. Proficient computer skills and understanding of engineering design tools are essential.
Responsibilities
- Researches and selects control system peripherals.
- Produces controls systems design drawings, sequence of operations, and submittals for lower to mid-level control systems projects.
- Reads and interprets construction drawings and project specifications to ensure compliance with the specs.
- Collaborates with the project team to identify additional options for the customer, such as Energy Efficiency, Equipment Interface, and Value Engineering.
- Modifies previously produced controls designs to reflect field changes made during implementation (as-builts).
- Generates Operation & Maintenance manuals at the end of a project.
- Manages time and cost budgets for assigned project tasks as directed by the Project Manager or higher-level Design Engineer.
- Communicates effectively with all project team members regarding problems, obstacles, issues, and information needs from the field.
- Recommends design modifications in a timely and effective manner to resolve potential field issues.
- Submits daily and/or weekly summary of work reports to the project team leadership.
- Manages weekly time allocations to multiple assigned projects for timely submission of time sheets.
- Practices safe work habits and participates in office safety programs and any specific safety requirements of assigned projects.
- Takes personal responsibility for completing formal training and development plans.
- Participates in the ongoing development program with other entry-level engineers.
Requirements
- Associates degree in a technical field or 2-5 years of related work experience in building automation systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and thorough understanding of controls systems.
- Knowledge of the ALC product line and requirements as well as other vendor products, systems, and protocols.
- Ability to read construction blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, Windows, File Structure, AutoCAD, VISIO.
- Basic TCP/IP network structure and web navigation are desired.
- Highly organized and capable of working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet schedules.
- Independent and autonomous, taking ownership of all assigned tasks.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
