Controls Design Engineer II

About the Role

This position requires applying technical knowledge and prior experience to produce controls project design, material selection, and development of sequence of operation for lower to mid-level projects. The role also involves producing closeout documents at project completion and closely collaborating with the Project Manager and/or assigned Project Engineer to ensure timely project delivery in a fast-paced environment. Some travel and job site visits may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and selects control system peripherals.
  • Serves as lead Design Engineer in producing controls systems design drawings, sequence of operations, and submittals for lower to mid-level control systems.
  • Reads and interprets construction drawings and project specifications to ensure control systems design compliance.
  • Collaborates with the project team to identify additional customer options (e.g., Energy Efficiency, Equipment Interface, Value Engineering).
  • Modifies previously produced controls designs to reflect field changes (As-Builts).
  • Generates Operation & Maintenance manuals at project closeout.
  • Manages time and cost budgets for assigned project tasks as delegated by the Project Manager or higher-level Design Engineer.
  • Communicates effectively with project team members regarding problems, obstacles, issues, and field information needs.
  • Recommends design modifications to resolve potential field issues in a timely manner.
  • Submits daily and/or weekly work summary reports to project leadership.
  • Manages weekly time allocations across multiple projects for on-time timesheet submission.
  • Practices safe work habits and participates in office and project-specific safety programs.
  • Completes OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 safety training classes.
  • Takes responsibility for completing assigned formal training and development plans.
  • Participates in ongoing development programs with other engineers.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field or 2-5 years of related work experience in building automation systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and thorough understanding of controls systems.
  • Knowledge of the ALC product line, vendor products, systems, and protocols.
  • Ability to read construction blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Windows, file structures, AutoCAD, and VISIO.
  • Basic TCP/IP network structure and web navigation skills are desired.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to operate independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Valid California driver’s license.

  • Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs.

  • Constantly moves up to 10 lbs. of force to move objects.

Pay

Competitive wages ranging from $70,000 to $90,000 annually. Actual compensation is determined by factors unique to each candidate, including job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location.
