About the role

Hatch, a full-service engineering consultancy, is seeking a Junior Control and Automation Engineer for a challenging career in engineering consulting. This opportunity allows you to acquire knowledge in control systems, instrumentation and electrical interface systems, SCADA and telemetry, and the application of ISA to engineering and design. In addition to theoretical engineering and design work, candidates will gain valuable on-site practical experience within our Project Delivery Group (PDG), a dynamic team committed to world-class project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Instrumentation and Control System engineering design support to multidiscipline teams on maintenance, expansion, and new construction projects.
  • Participate in site evaluations and data collection.
  • Participate in P&ID development and the creation of all associated lists (e.g., instruments lists).
  • Assist in the preparation of equipment specifications and instrument data sheets.
  • Update motor schematics, loop drawings, layout drawings, and instrument location drawings.
  • Assist in the preparation of PLC, DCS, and HMI programming and functional descriptions.
  • Provide on-site construction, commissioning, and start-up support.
  • Perform assignments related to your sector.
  • Assist with preparation of detailed design for projects.
  • Support preparation of drawings from detailed notes and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other technicians/engineers on projects.
  • Provide support to Senior Engineers and Designers as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must have or be currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering (with an interest in Controls), or Computer Science.
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to achieving engineering excellence.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to various practical problems.
  • Desire to learn and continually develop.
  • Strong personal commitment to safety.
  • Previous Co-op or Internship experience is an asset.
