Controller / Vice President Of Finance

Role Description

The Controller / Vice President of Finance is a full-time, in person role based in San Diego, CA. This position is a key leadership position responsible for both day-to-day accounting operations and strategic financial stewardship and planning. This position ensures the integrity of financial reporting, oversees all accounting operations, ensures compliance with nonprofit regulations, and partners with executive leadership to guide financial sustainability, grant management, and long-term planning.

Qualifications

• Strong accounting and finance skills, including experience with nonprofit accounting practices.
• Expertise in preparing and analyzing financial statements and financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
• Solid analytical skills to interpret financial data, develop budgets and forecasts, and support strategic decision-making.
• Proficiency in finance-related systems, tools, and software (e.g., accounting platforms, spreadsheets, reporting tools).
• Demonstrated experience in a senior financial leadership role, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance, grant and contract management, and internal control best practices.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification is highly beneficial.
