Controller - Real Estate

About the role

A growing privately held real estate investment and development firm is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting operations across its family office and real estate investment platform. This role will partner directly with ownership and senior leadership while overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, cash management, entity reporting, and process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting operations across multiple real estate entities
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, and reconciliations
• Oversee entity-level accounting and reporting
• Manage cash reporting, banking activity, and financial controls
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Review project and investment performance
• Cook with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial partners
• Cook with accounting processes and internal controls
• Provide financial reporting and insight directly to ownership

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager experience
• Real estate accounting experience required
• Experience with privately held real estate companies, family offices, developers, or investment firms preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close
• Experience managing multiple entities and LLC structures
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience with Yardi, MRI, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar systems is a plus
• CPA preferred but not required
