Controller/Director of Finance
About the role
The Controller/Director of Finance is a robust communicator of financial, accounting, and compliance related information. Under the direction of the CFCO, they are a critical thought partner in advancing the organizations goals, projects, and processes in the finance, accounting, and compliance division.
Responsibilities
- Strategic and Analytic Financial Management & Operations
- Design and oversee financial systems, processes, protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee financial services that affect divisions, under direction of the CFO to include: Accounts Payable (AP) / 1099 Filings / Accounts Receivable (AR).
- Ensure payments are recorded in SalesForce (SF).
- Cash receipt workpaper updates.
- Sending out divisional financial statements each month.
- Preparing monthly financial packages.
- Holding projects that affect specific divisional needs.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit best practices and requirements.
- Monitor and control cash flow, including managing accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Maintain the organization's Rapid Reporting, Power BI, Dashboards, and Analytics.
- Financial Forecasting & Reporting
- Implement and support data-driven principles to guide the foundation’s work.
- Develop and forecast budgets as well as provide financial concierge services to projects/project directors.
- Prepare timely financial statements, ensuring prompt and accurate month, quarter, and year-end closings.
- Manage audits and financial compliance activities.
- Drive financial accountability by identifying and establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting, contributing to tracking and reporting on engagement outputs and outcomes for both internally and externally submitted reports.
- Provide reporting to senior management for cash-flow, accounts payable and receivables.
- Assist in gathering information for the annual audit and any compliance activities.
- Prepare timely financial statements, ensuring prompt and accurate month, quarter, and year-end closings.
- Prepare and Review monthly reconciliations for financial accuracy.
- Provide reporting to senior management for cash-flow, administer payroll, accounts payable and receivables.
- Strategic Planning
- Contribute to and review strategic plans and financial planning for each organizational division.
- Review effect of potential business decisions on financial policy and financial outlook.
- Collaborating with partners or funders as beneficial and assigned.
- Prep and Schedule Meetings with Divisions on Monthly Basis and as needed.
- Work with the project directors and assist in the annual budgeting process and monthly forecasting.
- Work with the project directors on cash projects, financial analysis, and monthly forecasts.
- Align to strategic plans to ensure finance department compliance.
- Provide ongoing process improvement changes.
- Supporting Accounting, Audit, and Related Infrastructure
- Managing and leading projects related to finance, accounting, audit, and related issues.
- Providing audit support for both external and internal audit engagements.
- Supporting accounting and financial quality control standards and GAAP requirements.
- Leading reconciliation of advanced GL related issues.
- Revenue, expense, and trend analysis actions and projects.
- Assisting with budget, financial analysis and related projects.
- Supporting services to a portfolio of projects across the organization.
- Supporting grant accounting and financial services across the organization.
- Compliance and Special Projects (UGG, Grant, and Corporate Compliance)
- Manage and ensure compliance functions across the entity in inter-related ares.
- Designing and testing internal audit functions for the organization.
- Designing and testing compliance functions for the organization.
- Designing and testing grant related compliance functions for the organization.
- Other Duties As Assigned by CFCO
- Special Projects as assigned by CFCO related to Finance, Accounting, and Compliance.
Qualifications
- Must possess advanced soft skills and an ability to communicate complicated, financial, and business information to non-financial audiences and stakeholders.
- Must possess the ability to engage with projects, programs, and stakeholders in strategic conversations and dialogue with an energetic, dynamic, passionate, and problem-solver mindset.
- Advanced Accounting/Journal Entry/GAAP Experience.
- Must have Bachelor's degree in Accounting from (AACSB Accreditation).
- Must have strong/advanced Excel Skills (Formulas, Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, etc.).
- Must have strong/advanced Journal Entry Skills (Debits/Credits/Financial Statements).
- 5+ years of experience in financial planning, analysis, and modeling.
- Working knowledge of financial strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP, Oracle, or related financial systems.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Accounting.
- Preferred: Experience working with Nonprofit Organizations.
- Preferred: Experience working with ERP System and Advanced GL Software Knowledge.
- Knowledge relating to federal and state grant application and reporting.
- Prior experience with fiscal sponsorship, or multiple subsidiaries or companies with a complex operating structure, is highly beneficial, including indirect cost rate applications.
Skills and Abilities
- Proven work experience as a Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Analyst or similar role.
- Hands-on experience with financial and statistical software.
- Familiarity with finance databases.
- Understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP).
- Up-to-date with accounting laws and regulations.
- Ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts.
- Demonstrable strategic thinking skills.
- Confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
- Strong technical accounting background with knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and financial reporting requirements.

Benefits
Compensation for this full-time position is $95,000 - $130,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications and certifications. Benefits include a best-in-class comprehensive set of benefits to support the team.
