This is a full-time, in-office position based in Kent, Washington.

About the role

The Controller is responsible for directing all accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, internal controls, and compliance activities for the company. This position partners closely with executive leadership to provide financial insight that supports strategic decision-making while ensuring the integrity of the company's financial records. The Controller will supervise accounting personnel and oversee accounting functions related to heavy civil construction, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, equipment accounting, payroll, and contract accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, internal controls, and compliance activities.
  • Provide financial insight to support strategic decision-making.
  • Supervise accounting personnel and oversee accounting functions specific to heavy civil construction, including:
    • Job costing
    • Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
    • Equipment accounting
    • Payroll
    • Contract accounting
  • Ensure integrity of the company's financial records.
  • Manage job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, construction contracts, cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Utilize accounting software in a construction environment.
  • Manage audits and banking relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant construction accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting leadership or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting principles.
  • Extensive experience with:
    • Job costing
    • Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
    • Percentage-of-completion accounting
    • Construction contracts
    • Cash flow management
    • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience with accounting software in a construction environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA license.
  • Experience in heavy civil, infrastructure, or commercial construction.
  • Familiarity with prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements.
  • Experience with union payroll and multi-employer benefit reporting.
  • Experience working with equipment-intensive construction operations.
  • Experience managing audits and banking relationships.
