Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, fixed assets, and cash management.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process and ensure timely, accurate financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reporting.
- Serve as the primary leader for external audits and as a key contact for outside auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and other financial stakeholders.
- Manage accounting, tax, and audit activities as core responsibilities of the role, ensuring strong compliance, clean reporting, and disciplined financial stewardship.
- Maintain a strong internal controls environment and identify practical opportunities to tighten processes, improve efficiency, and support scalability.
- Ensure accurate product costing, standard costing, labor costing, and variance analysis across inventory and operations.
- Partner with operations and leadership to ensure accurate costing for the products the company manufactures and sells, with clear visibility into manufacturing variances and work-in-process.
- Support inventory accuracy, reconciliation, and related reporting.
- Manage daily and 13-week cash forecasting, cash flow planning, and related reconciliations.
- Support executive reporting needs, including business summaries, variance analysis, and other financial insights for leadership and ownership stakeholders.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts and ensure all supporting schedules, accruals, and reconciliations are complete and well organized.
- Work cross-functionally with HR and other departments as needed on payroll backup, benefits-related reporting, and year-end compliance requirements such as 1099s, 401(k) reconciliations, workers’ compensation, and related filings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
- Strong accounting, tax, and audit leadership experience is required; these are table stakes for the role.
- Demonstrated success as Controller for a mid-sized company.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred, including cost accounting knowledge and familiarity with standard costing, labor costing, and manufacturing variances.
- Aerospace and defense industry experience, including U.S. Government compliance and accounting exposure, is a strong plus.
- Experience with ERP systems and close cycle management required; NetSuite experience is a plus.
- CPA is a strong plus.
- Prior experience with acquisitions, acquisition accounting, or merger integration is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a practical, hands-on leadership style with the ability to work effectively in a smaller team environment.
