About the Role
We’re seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Controller to join our team. This individual will be responsible for managing our financial activities. Reporting to the VP, Finance, this role owns the daily and monthly accounting operations. The position is hybrid, operating out of our office in Fort Worth, Texas, with a primary work schedule of 90% remote and 10% in-person.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with external auditors and tax consultants to maintain strong relationships and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Lead the tax management function by managing an external tax advisory firm.
- Be conversant in federal partnership tax returns, state sales tax, multi-state employment, and nexus questions.
- Lead the 1099 process.
- Lead the annual audit process by managing the audit firm.
- Manage the annual audit as the primary day-to-day contact; coordinate PBC lists, schedules, and issue resolution.
- Drive transformational projects to automate and improve efficiency while strengthening internal controls.
- Manage all month, quarter, and year-end closing activities, overseeing the full schedule and task delegation to ensure timely delivery of financial statements to the VP, Finance.
- Lead intercompany and multi-entity consolidations within NetSuite, maintaining the structural integrity of the chart of accounts and subsidiary mappings.
- Author technical accounting documentation and oversee compliance for ASC 606 revenue recognition and ASC 926 content cost management, including necessary impairment reviews.
- Mentor and grow senior accounting level professionals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing.
- Deep working fluency in NetSuite or a similar ERP — comfortable in the chart of accounts, subsidiary and consolidation setup, saved searches, and reporting, not just consuming outputs from it.
- 8+ years of experience with demonstrated increasing responsibility.
Qualifications
- Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting techniques.
- Capability to think critically and develop comprehensive financial strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present complex financial information to senior management and stakeholders.
- Experience in media, entertainment, live events, subscription businesses, or content/film cost accounting is preferred but not necessary.
- Examples of using AI to improve accounting processes will be considered a differentiator.
