Controller

Key Responsibilities

• Lead monthend, quarterend, and yearend close processes
• Prepare and present accurate financial statements
• Maintain general ledger integrity and oversee all accounting activities
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
• Oversee job costing, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition
• Monitor project financial performance and margins
• Accurately track retainage and progress billing
• Supervise accounting staff (AP, AR, payroll, accounting team)
• Provide guidance, training, and performance management
• Establish and improve accounting processes and internal controls
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and liquidity planning
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes
• Provide financial insights to support operational decisionmaking
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations, audits, and reporting requirements
• Oversee certified payroll and applicable construction-related compliance
• Maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
• 7+ years of accounting experience, with leadership experience
• Construction or job-cost accounting experience strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition
• Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Paychex) and accounting software
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and leadership skills
• PREFERRED: Experience in a general contracting or construction management environment
• Familiarity with certified payroll and compliance reporting
• Experience scaling finance processes in a growing organization
