About the Role
As a senior member of the management team, you will oversee all financial and administrative activities for the client's companies. You will manage a strong bookkeeping staff, provide financial reporting, analysis, and strategic recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors, and serve as a trusted "player-coach" within a close-knit leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for external parties, including:
- External accountants (CPA firm)
- Payroll service vendor
- Banks
- IRS and IDOR
- Regulatory agencies
- IT software consultants and vendors
- Equipment and software vendors
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, tax and regulatory compliance, invoicing, accounts receivable collections, accounts payable, and bank reporting.
- Develop and enforce sound cash management practices, customer credit policies, and internal security measures (e.g., bank reconciliation, check writing, ACH payments, vendor premiums, and credit card oversight).
- Design, manage, and review internal control systems.
- Manage the outsourced payroll vendor relationship and periodically evaluate whether payroll should remain outsourced or be brought in-house.
- Provide ongoing analysis of key performance metrics and proactive financial recommendations to management (e.g., health insurance, employee benefit programs).
- Oversee the human resources team, including compensation and benefit programs.
- Manage IT activities, including:
- Performance of IT vendors and programs
- Timely software updates
- Hardware and software training
- Maintenance and upgrades of computer hardware
- Office equipment and supplies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA is a plus but not required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting or finance.
- Regulatory industry experience is a plus but not required.
- 5+ years in a Controller or Head of Accounting role.
- 5+ years of personnel management experience, including leading teams of 5 or more.
- Solid ERP platform experience; experience with PDI is a plus but not required (can be learned on the job).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Business Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- An inquisitive mind with the ability to manage and develop a bookkeeping/accounting team while delivering high-level financial analysis and strategic recommendations.
- Comfortable operating as a "player-coach" in a small, collaborative senior management team.
- Experience in a diverse, regulated, and/or highly taxed industry is helpful but not required.
