Responsibilities
- Direct the daily operations of the finance team, ensuring accurate execution across accounting and reporting activities.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and present meaningful analysis to organizational leaders and the board.
- Oversee cash management practices to support liquidity, accountability, and sound fiscal stewardship.
- Lead core transactional functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and related reconciliations.
- Manage the annual budget process, monitor financial performance, and explain variances against forecasts and approved plans.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls to promote compliance, accuracy, and effective risk management.
- Cook up audit preparation and serve as a key finance contact for external auditors and funding-related reviews.
- Administer financial oversight for grants and subrecipients, including compliance reporting for federally funded programs.
- Communicate financial results, trends, and risks clearly to leadership, the board of directors, and other governing stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 7 years of finance or accounting experience, including 3 to 5 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Demonstrated background in grant accounting, with preference for experience supporting federally funded awards.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance reporting.
- Experience working in nonprofit, education, government, or similar mission-focused organizations is highly valued.
- Certification such as CPA or a comparable accounting designation is preferred.
- Familiarity with grant management accounting systems and related financial software is preferred.
