Location: Chesterfield, VA Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire Starting Salary: $140,000/year, higher depending on experience Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead and manage the company's accounting operations. This position is responsible for financial reporting, accounting systems, internal controls, budgeting, cash flow management, and ensuring financial results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Controller will provide financial leadership, support strategic business initiatives, and work closely with operational leadership to maintain financial integrity and improve accounting processes. Key Responsibilities Drive strategic initiatives, execute business plans, and maintain a big-picture perspectiveLead financial integrity and collaboration in managing accounting systems and processesOversee all accounting and financial functions, including accounts payable, payroll, reporting, billing, taxes, P&L, asset management, collections, and budgetingEnsure accurate and timely financial reportingManage cash flow, forecasting, and short- and long-term financial analysesMaintain accounting systems and records and implement and monitor key financial and operational controlsDevelop and enforce internal processes, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectivenessMonitor cash flow and P&L performance and review bank accounts dailyProvide financial and project accounting leadership aligned with operational and strategic goalsReview monthly reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and oversee balance sheet, revenue estimates, expenses, and allocationsManage monthly and year-end closing processes and ensure deadlines are metParticipate in audits and oversee tax compliance and licensingCoordinate the submission of financial data to an external accounting firm for annual reviewLead and support accounting team members, including Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Assistant Controller functions Required Skills & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum of 10 years of related work experience; construction or rail industry experience preferredDemonstrated knowledge of GAAPSuperior ability to handle complex account reconciliations, budgets, financial reports, and related accounting functionsHighly proficient computer skills with the ability to learn and use specialized accounting software, including Timberline and ViewpointStrong leadership, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines Physical Requirements Primarily desk work with occasional walking, standing, and meetings with employeesAbility to travel to various divisions and attend meetings as neededAbility to lift up to 20 lbs. for items such as files and computersOccasional bending required Travel Requirements Minimal travel required, with occasional travel to other divisions and for conferences, workshops, seminars, meetings, and training.
