Responsibilities
- Serves as the practice's day-to-day financial expert; partners with executive leadership and physician owners to develop long-term financial plans and budgets.
- Advises management and physician owners regarding financial programs in a multisite, single-market location.
- Assists in determining financial goals for operating units, analyzing and reporting variances, and maintaining general ledger and related systems for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Develops management reports, coordinates and monitors financial budgets, and ensures financial reporting complies with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Develops systems and monitors compliance with company/practice agreements, including the Management Services Agreement.
- Ensures practice compliance with accounting and revenue cycle policies/procedures and internal controls.
- Oversees revenue cycle and reconciliation of key accounts (AR, cash clearing, credit balances, reserves for contractual, bad debt, and denials).
- Reports detailed financial information to Executive Director and physician leadership; presents financials at physician and board meetings.
- Supervises one Accounting Manager, one Staff Accountant, and one Financial Analyst.
- Oversees month-end accounting process.
- Acts as liaison between McKesson Specialty Health and field for process implementation and control.
- Provides support to department managers, practice administration, and physicians in preparing, understanding, and using financial information to improve cost-effectiveness.
- Participates in development of practice objectives.
- Ensures information systems capture financial data required by third-party payers, practice management, physicians, and external sources (Insurance, SEC, etc.).
- Ensures fiscal deadlines are met and appropriate data is provided.
- Establishes and monitors internal controls of assets/resources, including developing and writing financial policies and procedures.
- Supervises business office in developing and implementing procedures for patient accounts and reimbursements.
- Participates in the selection and implementation of computer software.
- Directs practice and site cost accounting, budgeting, and special projects.
- Develops annual budget and coordinates budgets for all operating units.
- Develops budget instructions, assists managers with budget preparation, ensures compliance with deadlines, and reviews reasonableness of final budget goals.
- Oversees operating, capital, and cash flow budgets; assists practice management in controlling expenditures to ensure compliance with budgetary limits and agreements.
- Reviews proposed contracts for financial impact and risk factors; audits some contracts, orders, and vouchers before processing.
- Coordinates external audits as necessary.
- Coordinates activities in keeping books and records, including maintaining general ledger and related systems for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Coordinates payroll functions and related reporting.
- Ensures proper receiving, deposition, and disbursing of all center funds and manages cash flow.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's degree strongly preferred.
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience in fiscal management.
- Three (3) years public accounting experience preferred.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
- Experience working in a multi-state (Minnesota and Wisconsin) environment preferred.
- CPA or CMPE certification preferred.
Pay
$155,500 - $220,472 annual; bonus eligible
Physical Demands
- Requires sitting for long periods of time.
- Some bending and stretching required.
- Adequate finger dexterity and feeling to perform keyboarding and substantial repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Must be able to view computer screen and printed material accurately.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in an office environment with frequent interaction with practice management, staff, and physicians.
- May require occasional travel by air or automobile.
