About the role
The Controller oversees the organization's accounting activities, including financial reporting, compliance, and cash management. They manage the Accounting operations, including AP, AR, GL, and closing processes, and assist with investments.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary point of contact for all financial matters and assists with investments.
- Develops and maintains Finance Department policies and procedures.
- Maintains financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ensures financial information systems, procedures, and processes support all financial and operational aspects of the organization and business needs.
- Provides financing and borrowing strategies and makes strategic recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer.
- Manages the Accounting team, directs all aspects of accounting operations, and prepares and files annual regulatory returns.
- Maintains and monitors current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
- Implements, documents, and maintains adequate and effective internal controls and processes to improve the close and reporting cycles.
- Directs, manages, and facilitates processes for financial annual audit, other compliance audits, and oversees the preparation of the audit report.
- Manages cash flow and aids with investment and asset management.
- Maintains financial reporting and compliance on all grants/contracts received from various sources.
- Aids with authorizing procurement asset requests in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Maintains financial activities and ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Assumes special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Overall Experience: 10 years, including experience in Non-Profit and Government Contracting.
- ERP Systems Experience: 1 year, specifically with Deltek, Unanet, or Oracle, with implementation experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Strong financial management skills.
- Experience with financial reporting and compliance.
- Knowledge of federal and state policies and directives.
- Ability to develop and maintain policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in accounting software and systems.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
