About the role
Bangor Housing Authority, one of the largest housing authorities in Maine, is seeking a Controller to join their team and be responsible for maintaining consistency and efficiency in recording day-to-day financial transactions of Bangor Housing Authority. This includes cash management, AP and AR, management of Bookkeeper and assisting with budget creation. The position reports to the CFO and interacts heavily with the Property Management, Compliance and Development departments.
Responsibilities
- Fund Accounting and cost allocations for Bangor Housing Authority (BHA) and Bangor Housing Development Corporation (BHDC).
- AP, AR, Cash Receipts and disbursements for BHA and BHDC.
- Create ACH files and transfer funds as needed.
- Aid CFO in developing budgets.
- Conduct monthly closing procedures.
- Aid with preparation for reviews and audits.
- Track Community Solar electricity credits.
- Work with Property Manager and Maintenance to determine and book capital improvements.
- Handle MD130 requisitions for use of reserve funds.
- Perform special projects and participate on committees as assigned.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in accounting or related field required.
- Five years of experience in accounting, asset management or related field preferred.
- Excellent Microsoft Office Product skills including Excel.
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Detailed oriented and highly organized.
- Experience in non-profit or affordable housing agency preferred.
- Working knowledge of state financing agency regulations preferred.

- Annual pay range starting at $85,000+ and will be commensurate with experience.
