Controller

About the Opportunity

The Controller serves as a key financial leader responsible for accounting, financial reporting, treasury management, and cash flow planning across a diverse portfolio of investment entities. Reporting to the organization's senior finance executive, this individual will provide financial leadership while partnering closely with internal teams, key internal stakeholders, and external advisors to ensure operational excellence and long-term stewardship of organizational assets. This is more than a traditional Controller position. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, helping strengthen financial operations, improve organizational processes with a focus on leveraging technology for efficiency, and support strategic decision-making across a diverse portfolio of entities.

Accounting & Financial

• Oversee timely financial reporting and accounting activities across all entities utilizing the organization's ERP platform
• Own the annual budgeting process and monthly close, including analysis and communication of budget variances
• Oversee outsourced accounting relationships and evaluate opportunities to further develop internal accounting capabilities
• Review quarterly and annual financial reporting across multiple legal entities and investment structures
• Assist with the close process for select entities to support workload balancing across the team
• Partner with leadership to assess future accounting resource needs as the organization continues to evolve and scale
• Build and maintain strong relationships with outside CPA firms and strategic service providers
• Develop and maintain accounting and finance policies and procedures that support best-in-class operations

Tax Coordination

• Partner closely with internal tax leadership to ensure timely tax reporting, estimates, and compliance activities
• Own and review tax return for holding company entity

Treasury Management & Cash Flow Planning

• Review all treasury and cashiering activities, including intercompany transactions, investment transactions, and vendor payments
• Lead the weekly liquidity analysis process and provide insights to support cash management and lending decisions
• Oversee tracking and reconciliation of intercompany receivables, payables, and related notes
• Own the annual cash flow budgeting process across multiple entities and prepare quarterly actual-to-budget reporting for executive leadership
• Maintain strong banking relationships and ensure effective account management and governance practices

Risk Management & Internal Controls

• Partner with leadership to identify organizational risks and implement processes and controls to mitigate those risks
• Strengthen internal controls over financial reporting and treasury activities
• Promote transparency, accountability, and sound financial stewardship across the organization

Strategy & Operations

• Coach, develop, and mentor direct reports while supporting performance management and professional growth
• Partner with leadership to map workflows across the organization and identify opportunities for process improvements
• Evaluate automation and AI solutions to improve efficiency and scalability while aligning with organizational policies and standards
• Serve as a trusted thought partner to leadership on operational initiatives and long-term strategic priorities

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting and CPA preferred
• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including ownership of financial reporting, close processes, and treasury activities. Public accounting experience is preferred
• Experience supporting tax return preparation and review is a plus
• Proven track record leading, mentoring, and developing accounting professionals
• Experience with modern ERP systems, financial reporting platforms, and workflow automation tools
