About the role
The Controller role at Aduro Advisors is multifaceted, requiring a blend of preparation and review skills. This role involves managing a team of professionals to ensure high-quality service delivery to a dedicated set of clients. The Controller must be adept at handling both routine and ad-hoc tasks, ensuring that all client needs are met promptly and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Manage workflow and coordinate work among Aduro team members, including Directors, Senior Controllers, Accounting Managers, Staff Accountants, and Management Company Team members.
- Set up and run recurring client check-in calls, covering current status, open items, and client updates on upcoming operational needs.
- Respond to ad-hoc client requests in a thoughtful and professional manner, aligning with Aduro processes and industry best practices.
- Reconcile banking transactions and prepare journal entries in accordance with US GAAP in Xero.
- Drive the month-end close process, reconcile and maintain investment information for all fund investments, and prepare quarterly financial statements including partners' capital allocations.
- Utilize proprietary investment management databases to send investor correspondence and update the database for fund activity and investments.
- Prepare audit materials and manage year-end financial statement audit and tax work.
- Respond to ad hoc General Partner/Limited Partner data requests.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the alternative asset industry, with Venture Capital and/or Private Equity experience preferred.
- Experience in client-facing roles leading engagements on multiple clients.
- An in-depth understanding of US GAAP and partnership accounting, including complex allocation waterfalls.
- Natural resourcefulness, drive, and strong problem-solving skills.
- A passion for providing excellent customer service and attention to detail.
- Able to mentor and coach team members.
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as Xero or QuickBooks.
- Comfortable with software systems including Gsuite, Microsoft Office, Box, and Slack.
Qualifications
- CPA certification or MBA is a plus.
