About Claire

Claire Enoka grew up in Karana Downs, Queensland. In primary school, she was athletic and creative—playing hockey, practicing karate, learning guitar, and writing her own songs. Her favorite high-school subjects were English and the Arts.

After high school, she earned a Diploma of Music Performance, a Diploma of Sound Engineering, and a Diploma of Electronics and Communications from Southbank TAFE.

Career

Claire is a Control Systems Programmer. What attracted her to the field is the constant stream of new challenges and “puzzles to solve.” She thrives on the satisfaction of seeing a concept come to life and relishes the “hell yeah!” moment when a problem is cracked. Her creative background—especially in music—gives her a unique perspective, and she views being a woman in a male-dominated industry as her superpower.

Responsibilities

• Quoting, designing, programming, and commissioning control systems
• On-site commissioning of new systems and servicing of existing ones
• Creating custom user interfaces for touchscreens
• Programming dynamic lighting systems for building facades and venues
• Translating control briefs into functional systems that respond to timed schedules, touchscreen inputs, motion sensors, music, or combinations of these triggers

What Claire Loves About the Job

Claire loves the variety—every day is different. She finds endless possibilities in programming and feels a deep sense of accomplishment when her hard work comes to life, often experiencing a “Woah” moment. Her advice: “Find something that lights you up, and just go for it! Passions can change, and that’s not a bad thing—a change in direction can lead you down an exciting, unexpected path.”
