Control Systems Engineer (SBSC) | South Brunswick
About the role
The Control Systems Engineer supports the reliability, functionality, and uptime of OnTrac’s automated parcel handling systems by developing, maintaining, and optimizing PLC and WCS programs. This role provides real-time troubleshooting, supports controls design standards, and implements improvements that enhance throughput, fault recovery, and automation stability. This role works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, and OEM partners to help maintain a resilient, standardized, and scalable controls environment across the network.
Responsibilities
- Support, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC and WCS systems for conveyor lines, sortation equipment, dimensioners, and other automated systems to improve uptime and stability.
- Develop and maintain PLC programs (primarily Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell) that ensure reliable operation and strong fault recovery behavior.
- Implement improvements with engineering and OEM partners: Collaborate on controls revisions and software updates that improve throughput, recovery performance, and system consistency.
- Assist with commissioning, controls validation, and integration testing for new automation deployments and retrofits.
- Maintain IO lists, electrical schematics, network diagrams, and control panel layouts to support standardized operation and troubleshooting.
- Work with site technicians to resolve complex faults, train on basic troubleshooting, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards (e‑stops, lockout/tagout logic, interlocks).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in related technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in automation and controls for facilities, conveyor systems, automated material handling, or sortation equipment.
- Proficiency with PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell), HMIs, SCADA systems, and safety interlocks.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.

Pay
The expected starting base pay range for this position is $117,232 to $132,863, with full potential base salary range over a successful candidate’s tenure in the position of $117,232 to $148,494. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, and other job-related factors.
Schedule
Monday through Friday from 2:00pm to 10:00pm (Hours subject to change depending on business needs)
