About the role

Pratt & Whitney Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial, and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS handles all aspects of engine control and diagnostic system development, including requirements analysis, system and software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification, and validation.

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Control System Engine Airframe Integration Principal Engineer to work onsite at our East Hartford, CT campus. The successful candidate will serve as the Engine Airframe Integration Lead on a military development program.

The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is mandatory, and an active and existing security clearance is required from day one. This role is onsite, and commuting to the assigned site is the employee’s responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage incoming and outgoing control system and airframe interface requirements.
  • Analyze, decompose, validate, and document all relevant functional requirements.
  • Plan software release content with airframer and internal customers, developing critical integration milestones and handoffs.
  • Plan and coordinate verification and validation plans for Engine/Airframe Interface Requirements, including planning and execution of airframe integration rigs.
  • Support onsite airframer integration, validation, and verification as required.
  • Participate in Engine Airframe Integration, Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT), and other integration meetings.
  • Coordinate and lead airframe/control system Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) and Design Reviews.
  • Identify, assess, and communicate system-level functional risks, developing mitigation plans and executing burndowns.
  • Assess customer impact of open problems.
  • Coordinate and lead root cause investigation efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure full compliance of external communications with relevant IP and export requirements.

Up to 10% travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • 8 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with an advanced degree.

Skills

  • Experience with engine/airframe integration, weapon system integration, or working with customers (airframers) to install engines.
  • Experience with military aircraft and/or engine engineering processes.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills, with the ability to lead projects from planning through execution.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
  • Experience with JIRA, DOORS, FADEC, control systems, engine control units, or engine interfaces.
  • Experience working on Agile teams.
  • Desire for continuous learning and innovation.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $107,500 – $204,500 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
