Control Room Operator III

Duties

• Makes rounds to monitor and operate all major and auxiliary equipment and systems.
• Performs start-ups, shutdowns, and emergency procedures.
• Adheres to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.
• Observes, records, and interprets instrumentation and control system indications.
• Performs functional testing and makes routine operational tests and adjustments.
• Investigates plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events.
• Performs switching and tagging and maintains housekeeping duties.
• Maintains logs, records, and administrative documents.
• Provides advice and counsel to the Operations Manager and Lead Operators.
• Communicates with contractors and other non-Company personnel.
• Supports Chemistry functions as needed.
• Performs lockout/tagout procedures to isolate equipment and energy sources.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• A City of Providence Boiler Operator License upon award of the position and a City of Providence Stationary Engineer’s License within one year.
• Minimum of three years of operations experience.
• Valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Successfully complete all required Control Room Operator training.
• Basic math, electricity, chemistry, and power plant physical sciences knowledge.
• Print reading and communication skills.
• Ability to perform technical troubleshooting and document conditions in the Maintenance Management System.
• Effective oral communication, including using telephone and PA system.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
• Teamwork and clear communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and precise instruction following.

Work Environment

• Rotating shifts.
• Standing for extended periods.
• Climbing stairs.
• Lifting heavy objects when required.
• Working in atmospheric conditions with fumes, dust, and gases.
• Working in cramped and confined positions.
• Working in high noise and/or climate temperature extremes.
• Working near high voltage and/or rapidly rotating equipment.
• Working with toxic chemicals including but not limited to solvents, acids, and caustics.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $50.74.

Schedule

This position requires the ability to work 12 consecutive hours on a rotating shift. Must be willing to work overtime as required.
