Contract Duration: 6 Months (likely to extend). Hybrid role based in Houston, TX – on site Monday–Thursday, remote Friday.
About the Role
The Senior Contracts Analyst will draft and negotiate master trading agreements and ancillary documents to govern physical and financial energy-commodity transactions, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and internal policies while minimizing credit, legal, and operational risk.
Responsibilities
- Understand and apply the client’s documentation, credit, treasury, and legal policies to discuss issues with Credit, Legal, and Operations teams.
- Draft, negotiate, and suggest alternative provisions for commonly used contract clauses.
- Design, develop, maintain, and modify Master Agreements, provisions, and templates aligned with current credit, treasury, and legal policies.
- Develop and manage workflow systems to track and communicate the status of agreements in line with business priorities.
- Maintain work-in-progress on the team’s shared drive; upload agreements to the client’s database; input key provisions to ensure database accuracy; and generate reports as needed.
- Adhere to the Contracts Team’s processes and best practices for drafting, negotiating, and managing agreements.
- Enhance existing activities, bridge control gaps, and promote awareness of policies within the business and across teams.
- Communicate effectively with business teams, Credit, Legal, Compliance, and Settlements.
- Assist in special projects, such as implementing changes to agreements to align with strategic business shifts (e.g., creation, novation, modification, termination, or assignment).
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in contracts analysis or a related role.
- Strong hands-on negotiating skills and experience with standard industry trading agreements (e.g., ISDA, NGL NAESB, EEI, Gas NAESB, IECA).
- Highly competent in working with legal language and understanding compliance issues in energy commodity trading.
- Ability to critically analyze contract clauses to balance creative problem-solving with risk protection.
- In-depth knowledge of Dodd-Frank requirements.
- Experience managing multiple contract negotiations concurrently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Skills
